What We Noticed: Anaheim 2

The last round in sunny SoCal. Here’s What We Noticed:

  1. Sexton Gets it Done

He qualified fastest but had a bad crash in the whoops (lucky to be okay). Then he was leading the heat but crashed in the sand. Things weren’t looking great… more “wtf” moments once again. However, he pulled it together when he needed to come Main Event time. It was a huge sense of relief for him and the team to prove that they can win and contend. However, he needs to clean up the mistakes; it’s always the same situation regardless of brand. He won in A2, but can he be consistent moving forward?

  2. Hunter Lawrence is Here!

Obviously Hunter was really impressive last weekend with his runner-up finish at SD, but this weekend might be even more impressive. We awarded him Most Impressive again this weekend, and it’s well deserved; not many people can say they passed and pulled away from Tomac! The conclusion here is that he’s in it for the championship; weird to say with him never even winning a SX main yet, but Hunter has been consistent and phenomenal.

  3. Bad Night for Anstie

Anstie’s season was off to a great start for the first 1.5 main events. Unfortunately it’s been down hill since the Deegan incident. He crashed on his own in A2 and the resulting finish outside the top 5 is gonna hurt him a lot in points. Sucks… would have loved to watch Max battle it out with Deegan. It’s defs not over yet, but it’s not looking so promising. Besides that, his pace in the main wasn’t great.

  4. 250 Woes / Deegan Runaway

Seeing Kitchen crash in the first turn again was super frustrating, only then to see him pull off. To make matters worse, Hymas pulls off right behind him! The result? Two main competitors out of the race and out of championship contention. Hymas is now out for the rest of SX, but fortunately Kitchen will still be racing for race wins. Ultimately, feels like Deegan is just gonna run away with this thing…

  5. Talented C Riders

It wasn’t that long ago when watching C practice sessions was like watching the beginner class (obviously not that similar, but it was FULL of sketch moments). However, as of late I’ve noticed just how good all these guys are, even the guys that aren’t qualifying for the night show. They truly are professionals and look like they belong on a Supercross track. Maybe it’s access to more Supercross tracks for riding, maybe it’s prep from SMX Next, or maybe it’s simply less guys showing up to give it a go out, but regardless, it’s nice too the sport full of talented athletes.

Thanks for reading! We will be watching Houston from home but will bring you the same coverage throughout the weekend and ensuing week.
