It’s always a bummer to see someone get hurt, but’s it’s awful when it’s life changing like what happened to Robin on Saturday. You could tell immediately when he crashed that something wasn’t right: a bunch of concern from him, other riders (namely Starling), medics, and photographers on the track. Rumors started circling right away as to the extent of the injury, but no one wants to break that news unless it’s officially confirmed. Sure enough, on Sunday morning Robin posted on Instagram that he broke his back and currently has no feeling from the belly-button down. Awful news; the whole moto community is thinking about him and his family. For more updates and to donate, visit his profile on Road 2 Recovery.
Once again, we wrote about it in Most Impressive for this week, but it’s worth calling out: Sexton’s dominance is impressive. He needs to win and he’s doing it. This time in NJ it was straight up dominance; no one was even close to his speed. Sexton’s ability to perform under pressure is clutch right now. Him winning is not surprising. But him winning by over 10 seconds? That’s insane. Kudos to Chase.
Well, his chances of a title are gone now right? Vialle looked just a tad off all day, and unfortunately couldn’t finish ahead of his main title contenders in the main. That puts him 7 back of Hammaker and 4 back of Hampshire. With only 2 rounds left, that seems like too large of a gap to overcome. Besides, he still hasn’t shown that he can straight up beat these guys. All in all, it’s a regression from his winning ways of last year, and this season will no doubt be a disappointment (unless he can pull off the win!).
Perhaps not on the track (although he did do that really cool jump all the way over the table in the rhythm after the whoops), but at the post-race press conference he sure had a bit of an attitude. When asked how he felt mentally, he said fine… he felt he should have lost even more to Sexton considering how bad he was in the whoops. A little bit of a dig to Sexton, and not quite fully admitting just how bad the lost was. But that’s okay; he’s in it for the championship and these mind games are pivotal at this point of the series; it’s what Webb does so well.
Ahhhh… after a couple cold weekends, it was nice to sit out in the sun at MetLife. The weather on Saturday was perfect: no rain, sunny, and warm. MetLife stadium is a real spectacle: it’s a massive bowl, and it’s fun to roam around the venue. It’s proximity to NYC is of course a huge plus too.
