Lots of deliberation on Most Impressive 450 rider this week. Ultimately, it's hard to ignore just how amazing Sexton's ride in East Rutherford was. When he's on it like that, there's no one (in the current field) that can keep him honest speed-wise; he was about a second faster per lap than everyone else.
Sexton's main advantage came in the whoops, but don't let Webb's post-race interviews / press conference fool you: Sexton was simply faster everywhere. It's impressive that in these must-win scenarios these past two weeks he has been able to deliver like this. Can he do it 3 more times?
Here’s what he had to say about his night:
"I felt good all day. The two whoop sections helped me out a lot. I really feel like I made a lot of time up there. The KTM group has the bike working great. I had such a good flow that moto, and it really just felt like it was effortless for me, which is what we want. [We’ll just try to] keep that going, but I’m stoked. Fifth win of the season, so just try to keep truckin’ and focus week in/week out and see where we get. Overall, [I’m] having fun. I got a great start and made it happen."
A new name for Most Impressive, and a new name for 2025 SX! It was Simonson's first race this year after healing from an off-season injury, and he definitely performed. Simonson has raced 450s in supercross the past few years. He made a few mains, but most of those were in pretty thin fields. It was hard to know how he would perform in his ClubMX 250 debut, but it was definitely impressive. He got great starts all day, had fast lap-times, and simply looked the part. It's cool to see a relatively "unknown" guy like Simonson get a chance on a good team like Club, and so far it's paying off!
Both of these guys deserve a call-out. Dean rode super well to get a top 10 in only his second race back (he held off Justin Hill the whole time). And Ferrandis held off Malcolm Stewart the entire race to get his first top 5. Impressive rides from both of them!
