Who were the Most Impressive in Philly?

450 Class: Chase Sexton

Sexton badly needed this win… with only 5 rounds left and 15 points back on Webb, winning out was the only guaranteed way of keeping the championship in his control. Fortunately for him, he got it done! It was impressive too: he got held up in a first turn incident (same with Webb), pretty quickly passed Webb, and then consistently put down the fastest laps to reel in the leaders and take home the win. In what seemed like a classic setup for Webb (rutted track and keeping Sexton in sight), Sexton managed to pull away and crush any chances of a late-race charge for Webb.

In a season (and career) where we’ve seen Sexton struggle with unforced errors and mistakes, it’s impressive that he was able to put it all together under such high-pressure circumstances. Now he just needs to do that 4 more times…

Sexton recognized just how important this race was:

“It’s time to make or break. I felt great all day, and that’s how you do it: one, one, one, one [fastest qualifier in both sessions, heat race win, Main Event win]. I’m looking forward to the next race, but today was awesome. Good, dry track, not like last weekend, and I’m feeling good on the bike. It’s been fun and today was a good step in the right direction.”

250 Class: Cole Davies

He does it again… Cole Davies is somehow the Most Impressive rider on the track nearly EVERY time he’s on the track. This time he outdid his win from Seattle: a 250 E/W Showdown win is a feat, and for him to pull it off in such a dominant fashion in only his second attempt in his ROOKIE year?! That’s very impressive. He’s soooo good… clearly a title favorite for next year (maybe this year if Deegan has some bad luck?!).

He had this to say about the feat:

“I literally grew up watching all the guys that I’m racing right now. It’s a big stage out here, a lot of people watching, but I just focus on myself. Two in a row, I’m stoked. It’s been a long journey to get where I am. To Will – you get to keep your hair, mate. That’s two. So he gets to keep his hair, doesn’t get shaved, so he’s safe. I’m stoked, big thanks to the whole Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team and my mechanic Lach [Lachlan Mills]. We’ve been putting in the work… The whole group around me is just very, very good and striving to be the best they can. So I’m just stoked for everyone around me.”
