Another set of qualifying practices just wrapped up inside Oakland’s O.Co Coliseum.

After his 2nd place finish last weekend, Justin Barcia is looking better than ever. He’s aggressive, attacking the track, and sketchy (which is good for Barcia. A sketchy Barcia is a fast Barcia).

Behind Barcia was Marvin Musquin. Musquin has been steadily improving since his shoulder injury at round 2 in Houston, and is looking back to his old self today in Oakland. This soft track will benefit him; Musquin always seems to do well late in races when it’s rutted. Watch for him to jump through the whoops tonight!

Most of the riders are really struggling with the track. It was pretty soft earlier in the day, and was forming massive ruts. The ruts were throwing a lot of riders off of their rhythms, so watch for that to be a big factor as the night progresses. There’s a chance the track hardens up a bit after sitting in the sun all day, but regardless, it will still rut up more than the hard-packed SoCal test tracks these guys are used to.
