Qualifying is done, and it’s onto the night show now in Salt Lake City. Rice-Eccles Stadium is open-air, but the weather is nothing but sunny, so we should be in for some good racing tonight.

We have a tie in points for the 450 championship. It’s strange to see both Eli Tomac and Ryan Dungey running the red plate so late into the season, but it makes for exciting racing! Tomac and Dungey were 1-2 in the last qualifying session (although Grant’s lap time from earlier will make him 2nd overall).

Here are the qualifying results:

450:

My Opinion: Well, pretty uneventful practice, but the stage is set for a good night of racing! Points leaders Eli Tomac and Ryan Dungey come out 1-2 in the last session, but Tomac still looking the most comfortable.

Not sure what to think of this track… I like the finish line triple, and it’s neat to mix it up with some tight turns right before and after the start straight, but I think this will make it one-lined for racing. The lap times are also REALLY short, so lappers WILL be an issue tonight!

Wow, Justin Hill is feeling confident folks! He is really fast today, and keeps saying how he wants to gain back those 3 points that he lost in Seattle. For a guy with such a huge points lead, it’s really cool to see his motivation. In other words, just because he has a big points lead, doesn’t mean he’s playing it safe tonight; he wants to win!

My picks for the podiums are:

250:

  1. Justin Hill
  2. Aaron Plessinger
  3. Mitchell Oldenburg

450:

  1. Eli Tomac
  2. Ryan Dungey
  3. Marvin Musquin
