It’s finally here! The animated track map for Daytona… designed by Ricky Carmichael himself. Take a look:

My Opinion: I’ve been looking forward to this track design since the new timed-format was announced. The track design for Daytona has gone down hill in the past few years, which I always thought was due to an effort to shorten the track in order to fit 20 laps into the TV broadcast. Well, we no longer need to worry about it fitting into 20 laps, which seems to have offered a longer track design this year!

Despite the longer track design, it just doesn’t seem like the Daytona’s of old. No long, sketchy whoop section… nothing too similar to the motocross track it used to resemble. In contrast, this years track design actually seems super tight, without many long lanes. A lot of turning, without much flow… too many turns!!

It’s always hard to tell how these tracks will actually shape up come race time, but based solely off of the design, it just seems too one-lined right now, and quite boring. Hopefully I’m wrong… Daytona always has the potential to be such an epic race!
