Well the rumours were swirling this week in regards to Dean Wilson, Christophe Pourcel and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna. It is now official as Dean Wilson signs with the team for the remainder of Supercross season and all of the outdoors. This comes after Dean’s decent first 4 races with results of 13-12-11-11. He was only supposed to race the first 5 races on a privateer yamaha so this comes as a relief for the former Red Bull KTM rider.
On the other hand, this means that Christophe Pourcel will not be lining up for the rest of Supercross. The team has decided to expand their efforts into the Canadian Nationals and Pourcel is leading that effort. Pourcel will take the remaining SX season off to fully heal up with previous neck injuries.
This is what Wilson and Pourcel had to say about the changeup:
I won't ever forget this day when @bbhewitt took the chance on me and gave me my opportunity to return to racing in 2015. I've never worked with such a good group of amazing people. I'm sad that the road ends here for supercross as I have never given up on trying to be competitive in racing. Fortunately, we have had this plan in place for some time and the time is fitting now to move on to my next chapter of racing. I'm excited to go racing in Canada and respresent @husqvarna_usa And @rockstarenergy on their newly expanded efforts and bring them some good results! I would like to thank everyone involved for their continued support and belief in me. Things don't always work out as planned, but with injuries in this sport you have to make the best out of every situation. Having two consecutive neck injuries has been very tough on my body and it just needs more time to return to the level of competitiveness that we desire. Thank you to all the sponsors for their support through this journey and to all the fans for the love! @rockstarenergy @husqvarna_usa @flyracingusa @just1racing @jett_boots @scottmotosports @atlasbrace @bel_raycompany @fmf73 @scoscheinc @paradiseautos @wp_usa @ridedunlop @protaperusa @twin_air @hinsonracing @rk_excel @rockwellwatches @galferusa @dubyausa @talonengineering @guts_racing_inc @matrixconcepts @ogio_powersports @mechanix_wear @brembobrake @nstyle_mx
(PART 2) I had 1 order! And that was to hold this in until today. It was so hard with everyone texting asking if rumors where true and congratulating me the last couple days but I had to keep my word and keep my lips sealed. I am so excited. When Bobby called me about riding for the team I almost burst into tears I was so happy! Thank you @rockstarenergy @husqvarna_usa for giving me this opportunity. I am so blessed and so happy. Still same goal and plan. Top 10s and being at the races is so important. I am F#<€NG CHUFFED!!!! Thanks to all you fans sticking behind me. And if I never got back to you. I'm sorry I just couldn't say anything until now! Let's go racing! Cheers👊🏽
My Opinion: This is fantastic news to hear for Wilson as he definitely deserves a factory ride! Injuries has been his downfall so far and he has only raced four 450 SX races before 2017. We can work with speed and that is exactly what Deano has! I think this year will be a building year and to get top 10s AND to stay healthy is exactly what Wilson needs. If things go good, he is young and still has the potential to be a top rider in this sport. Just build race after race!
Now Pourcel is one of those riders that leaves us all wondering what could have been. There is no doubt that he is wicked talented on a dirt bike, but injuries and other complications left him out of the U.S circuit for many years. He was still fast when he came back on board, but mainly outdoors. In supercross he would rip the fastest time of the day in practice and then ride around for 15th in the main. It was just sooo confusing. I personally think he gets intimidated in racing Supercross and rides cautious. My oh my, what could have been. Although good luck to him in Canada!
