Round 3 of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship is this weekend in the Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Here is the animated track map:

My Opinion: Nothing but good vibes from this track design…

  • Only one triple
  • Two whoop sections
  • Consecutive 180-degree turns
  • Consecutive rhythm sections
  • and most importantly…. Over/Under bridge!

YES!! The over/under bridge makes its return to the 2017 season this weekend. This obstacle honestly doesn’t add much to the racing (other than that it can sometimes be tricky to downslope perfectly), but for some reason I just love. Perhaps it simply just allows the track design to be a bit more unique; regardless, it’s back and I’m excited.

Additionally, the best aspect of the A2 track design is the long whoops to rhythm to rhythm to whoops sections one after another separated by 180-degree turns. Everything about these 4 lanes will make for great passing opportunities: ample length provides time to pass and/or set-up passes, 180-degree corners provides the appropriate angle for passes (whether it’s in the turn, or cutting down out of the turn to pass in the next section), and rhythm and whoop sections allow for rider separation. The more you read my opinions on track design, the more you will understand that I love these obstacles for passing. The A2 track just does it right by grouping all of these things together.

Overall, awesome track, and it should provide for some great racing. Now, let’s just hope that the weather doesn’t ruin it…
